During the rebuild on my CB750F supersport 1980 I was not sure about the condition of the cushion rubbers.
Mine were oil soaked and very stiff, with a consistency more like hard plastic than rubber.
They could be bent slightly with a fair bit of effort and it was not possible to make an indentation with my thumbnail..
Bending them opened up numerous cracks.
The drive sprocket section was able to fit easily over the correctly positioned cushion rubbers demonstrating a fair bit of rotational play...about 3mm.
Brand new rubbers will be much more pliable with a rubber like feel.
An indentation can easily be made with a thumbnail.
Assembly lube is definitely necessary to fit the cushion drive sprocket and requires a fair bit of gentle persuasion.
There will be little to no rotational play.
