Yes, I know that powder coating isn't the ideal solution, but I'm falling behind on this winters projects already, and I need to get something moving pretty quickly.
The firm that I work for has powder coating done by two different local companies.
Everything that we send them is in prime rust free condition, so I'm guessing that I'm going to have to find someone independent to media blast the frame and parts to a clean rust and paint free condition before it goes to the powder coaters.
What I would like from you good forum members are some ball park figures for blasting and powder coating that you've paid, or been quoted recently.
My operations manager here is very co-operative and she will put all my stuff through at what the firm gets charged, I won't pay a penny extra.
But I'd still like to know exactly what other people have been paying, just in case someone is feeling greedy at the powder coaters.
I'm well aware that in a perfect world I should be using etch primer and a two pack epoxy top coat lovingly sprayed on, but frankly I just don't have the time at the moment.
I'm basically talking about a complete set of black cycle parts for a CB750F1, frame, swingarm, yokes, stands etc etc

Don't know about powder coating as I painted mine but my local blaster charged me £75 to blast the frame etc. before I applied the 2K epoxy primer, then the black, used Eastwood gloss black chassis paint after that which came out good. That was 1/2 a day labour charge.

I reckon that's a pretty good price for the blasting.
My local guy (if he's actually still trading) would have charged me more than that.
Maybe it's time I shopped around.
Looking at the one previously powder coated frame in my possession, rust has leeched out from under the engine mount blocks and started to spread under the powder coating.
Yes, a good paint system is definitely a better prospect.
I just don't have the time/space/facilities at present

I had my frame, brackets, battery box, side and centre stands etc. done, but not the swing arm, chain guard and front yokes which were in good condition.

They were handed over with whatever paint was on them and rusty. They came back pristine and black powder-coated, having been blasted and primed first. All thread holes had been preserved from the coating.

Took 6 weeks turnaround and £240 incl. Saved me hours of work and probably £80ish in paint and consumables. Freed me up to get on with the rest of the engine and refurbishment. In total, the bike was off the road for 3 months.

2 years later and 5,000 miles (some damp rides) all is still good. So, I'm happy I handed that part of the job over.
