Hi all, made a start at cleaning my tank and when I removed the fuel valve I found the filter and the tube to provide reserve fuel were missing, not bothered about the filter as will be fitting an inline filter butt without the tube there will be no reserve fuel, I can probably find some tube to make one but have no idea how long it should be. Can some kind soul be able to measure the length it needs to be from the top of the valve when fitted?
Many thanks.

I have done this before . Find out which one is the main and use a copper/brass/metal/fuel resistant plastic tube of any length you want . The longer the pipe the less main and more reserve you will have . If memory serves me right they are about 3 inches in length . Will see if I can find my old one and give you the specs later . Found it

Just to show you that you aren't the only ones overthinking things. My '79 has a tank capacity of 5 gallons from bone dry. The tube on the primary is 3 1/2" long and I have to go on reserve with 1.2 gallons remaining in the tank. That 3.8 gallons gets me around 130 miles of range before reserve. Been thinking about trimming an extra 1/2" off the tube, but I'd have to drain the tank and remove the petcock and it's hard to disassemble a perfectly running bike for something so trivial.

Get what you mean but at present I would have no reserve, a less than ideal set up, I will probably make it slightly shorter to give more main and less reserve, I've found some suitable tube to make it with just need to find a drill to get a nice tight fit in the cock.
