Anyone bought/used the pattern wheel rims that David Silver Spares are selling ?

No fortunately not.
Just good old fashioned wire spoked type.
I just wanted to know if they're the ones with DID stamped into the side of the rim in big capital letters, along with other specs.

If you drop David Silver an email, they are normally pretty good and will reply.

I was also hoping for a little feedback on the quality of the rims, and the durability of the chrome, compared to the original Japanese items.
DS are probably going to claim they are top quality, but I'd rather get an independent review if possible

I thought DID were the OEM supplier?
They were indeed.
But now they manufacture their rims in Indonesia apparently.
If they're the ones on my F1, they've got the size markings stamped into the side face of the rim in massive digits.
So OE manufacturers, but not OE looking.
 
I have two DID rims, one is the original from my bike and very rusty the other is a new DID made in 2007 then badly stored in a damp shed and now unusable without rechroming.

First 3 pictures are the NOS rim the other 2 are the original 1977 DID rim, yes the markings are slightly different, the original is marked Japan, the construction is identical even down to the tooling marks where the bead is formed so I would hazard a guess that the machinery was moved to the new manufacturing location where production now takes place.
Don't think 18 years in a damp shed is a fair test of chrome plating and this rim could be recovered with a rechrome whereas the original could be rcovered but would need copper plating probably 2 or 3 times to get rid of the pitting which would double the cost as it's +30% each time it's copper plated and repolished, at least that's what my man charges.

What a shame.
I've always been told to be wary of rechromed rims, simply because of the polishing requirements being likely to reduce the thickness of the metal in exactly the wrong place - the spoke dimples.
Allegedly a truly skilled polisher will avoid doing this, but I've heard horror stories of spoke nipples pulling through the rim at the wheel builders.
Have you actually had a quote for rechroming that original rim ?
I'd guess it's not economically viable.
And those extra layers of copper plating are going to obscure the very thing you're trying to preserve - the makers name and rim size etc.
I suppose that this detail could be masked off somehow, but I suspect that the end result somehow just won't look right.
What a nightmare!
