Paintwork and the engine have been done , now the build begins

Suppose I have to expect it . Put the bike in gear and the neutral light stayed on , tested and continuity out of and in gear . Will have to do some fiddling as my high beam light has gone very dull aswell , can barely see it now . Got to love teething problems , eh ? Wow aren`t neutral switches cheap ? Bought one for my model , in oz and got sent this . I am getting very tired of being sent the wrong parts
Oh dear doesn't even look similar!

Haven`t been able to do anything for weeks . We have had over 1.5 metres of rain in the last 6-7 weeks , resulting in floods , road closures , home losses and the worst part , deaths . I am safe enough where I live but the street floods up to waist deep in the gutters . So haven`t been able to return the neutral switch and get the right one or even think about getting the bike inspected for registration so I can start riding . Looks like we might get a break this week , but it is going to take a while for things to dry out . My yard is that wet , I cannot walk in it as I just sink in the clay soil and my trees are falling over . Lost 5 so far

Changed the neutral switch today . Interesting how it works . Now I have no horns and high beam light , so next project . The horns are lucky to work when you try and you have to stand just right , with your tongue in the right spot , you can get at least one to go beep . I have tried the tone adjusters on the back with some success , but once they sit for a while I`m back to square on . I`ll have to work on shouting " LOOK OUT " more

Feeling your pain, maybe it's just a duff bulb?

Loki

Seems the high beam bulb is OK and after pulling the lights apart , I could see that the blue lens is that dark , that you cannot see the high beam light in the daylight . Go figure . The horns though have me stumped . Mounted as per original , they make a noise that lets you know they are getting power , but no beep . Now disconnect one and it will work . Doesnt matter which horn you use , they both work and it doesnt matter which electrical connection you use it works . Just wont operate the two horns together . I need to do some head scratching on this

You haven't connected them in series have you?
OK I'll get my coat!

I tried parrallel , in series , seperately , together , on my left foot , on my right foot , lying down and standing on my head . I arsesume that they earth out at the mount , black is key power and green with red stripe is switch , so it must be an earth thingy . But hey , I could definately be wrong Got told to try it hotwired straight to power as it may have a voltage drop , but that just ended up in way too many sparks . So I`ll just use the one for now . Have to repull the carbs again , as I tried to start it after however long it sat in my shed due to the rain and it refused . Took me quite awhile untill it would start and only could get it to run on choke at 2-3 thou , cracking and popping . And it is bogging bad , so full clean of the pilots and accel pumps coming up again . Getting very sick of this , third time now and I even ran it till the bowls ran out of fuel the last time it ran . First the rust problem in the tank , then the float problem , now this . At least it isnt a hard job anymore , but it is just so hot in my shed . I need aircon !

Getting sick of this . Cleaned the rust and it hasnt returned , fitted a fuel filter , turned off the fuel and ran the carbs dry last time it ran . And the jets seem to be blocked again . After sitting in the shed for nearly 3 mths due to a biblical amount of rain , I tried to start her and no go . After lots of trying I managed to get it to fire , but it would only run above 2-3 thou . So full strip and clean and see where it goes . Worst part is the clamps for the boots have decided to say goodbye , one broke and the rest honestly are stretched to buggery . So I will have to replace them . 12 clamps in oz $300 aussie dollaroos , cough cough

They mostly were clean loki , I did find a bit of something in one bowl that might have been a small bit of o-ring , but the rest looked clean . When I first got the bike I stripped them and cleaned them up really good with a toothbrush and lots of tins of carb cleaner . Spoke to my engine builder and he said he uses these clamps , much , much , cheaper $2.50 each . So I`ll stock up in carb cleaner and when they turn up this week I will swap them over and go through my carbs again and strip and clean all of the passages and jets . Cant see why they are clogging up , the fuel tap has a screen in the supply tube for the tank and the tap has one aswell , and I have fitted an inline filter also . Possibly the rust that was in there has turned to dust and is still coming through , so I`ll drop out the fuel again from the tank to see if there is any floaties . Not much else to do as it is still raining and I am not going to ride in it

Got my new clamps , very shiney . Drained the tank and flushed it a few times to get any left over rust and there wasn`t much couldn`t quarter fill a teaspoon . Cleaned the tank filter and the tap filter then all of the carbs were cleaned and blown out . So heres hoping for another go at running properly , but cannot do stuff all due to the rain . It is officiall , we have now had the most rain ever on record for my neck of the woods , almost 3 metres since the 22nd of december . And now tree no.5 bites the mud , clay sucks !

Well we topped 3 metres in rain since xmas , have never seen so much in my life , phew ! Mould everywhere and some electrical things going boom due to the moisture . Have stripped , cleaned , blown out , then checked the float levels and pumpers on my carbs . Was putting them back on today , when I could smell the magic smoke escaping from something . Looked around the shed and noticed I could smell it when the fan passed me , then nek minut , fan dies due to moisture and burning out . Well it didnt take 5 minutes and the shed became unbearable and the sweat started pouring out of me , so bad it was like I was a rain cloud over my bike . I am going to have to go over it sometime and start replacing rusty bolts , Curse this rain ! Got to putting on the aircleaner top and couldnt handle it anymore , so will have to get another fan , before I get the aircleaner buttoned up . Those industrial fans are not cheap , I think I got almost 10 yrs out of it , but $2-300 aussie dollaroos aint cheap

Today was a milestone for my build , finally got a roadworthy and then registration for the bike . You might think it is all done and dusted , but . I have a problem with the carbs . After finding out someone just put them together with bits from a few of the different models of F2-3 . I am having problems with blockages in the pumps and pilots . I strip them , I clean them , I fix them , Then the next time I go to ride , same problem . 4 times now , so much so my clamps gave out and I had to source new ones . Had a suggestion today from the guy who did my roadworthy , He said to check the rubber pipes between the carbs as they could still be original and may be falling apart internally . So into the breach yet again and new hose for all . Oh yeah , we dont have plain number plates , it`s just blanked out to protect the innocent

Looking good there mate I still have a bit of a wait for my chrome before I can move forward. Got my tank in primer now a bit of filling and sanding to do then another coat of primer before the tank and seat hump can go for paint. Having a few days away in our Moho to unwind. Got to save up now to pay for the chrome so have to press pause on spending.

I had the same type of problem on one of my XS650's.
Repeated pilot jet blockage.
My suspicions came down to crap in the fuel.
So I put an inline filter on the fuel line.
That didn't solve the problem completely, but it took the jets longer to block up, so I knew I was on the right track.
Then I swapped out the fuel tank for one that was 100% pristine condition inside.
Problem solved
Except the tank didn't match the side panels.
So the final fix was to slosh sealant the original tank.
Except that we all know that those tank liners always fail after a few years.
Kept the bike, but sold off the tank and panels.
Someone else's problem now
If you've got the same problem, it's going to be difficult to address with all that shiny new paintwork on the tank.

I had some flash rust initially , but after cleaning and adding filters it still does it . The last time I cleaned them , I did find a tiny bit of rubber in one of the bowls . It seems to be pilots mostly that are blocking . So I`ll pull them again and go thru them . I scored a fair condition set of PD41`s for cheap , so I can go thru both and use the good original parts for mine , like the adjustable needles and hopefully this time it will run and keep running
