Having completed the re-build and placed the engine back in the frame I now notice I have no spring back on the kick start.

Any ideas why?

Maybe the return spring has come off or was misplaced , even broken . I have had it happen before on other bikes when the spring just snapped and then would not return . It is 16 in the diagram and hopefully you can check it by just pulling the clutch cover

Hi appreciate the response. I'm of the thinking the spring needed some level of torsion applying when I reassembled the box? If I ever get the bloody engine out and stripped ill let you know. It only took me 10 minutes on my own to the engine in and using the same method getting it out is taking hours! Where in Aus are you based? Been to Perth many times and love the place.

I used the bust your arse method on my original F2 in the 70`s and the laid over method when I restored my new F2 . Didnt have any help or a hoist/crane of sorts , once the bolts are loose , 5 minute job . Gotta say after now owning 2 CB750`s , I never really used the kickstarter much at all , only for giggles as the electric was always there and I have never had starting problems ( touch wood ) I now live in townsville nth qld , where I grew up , but was born in adelaide . The old man was a soldier and we got transferred a lot . So went from adelaide to cootamundra to albury wadonga to brisbane to townsville to brisbane and then back to townsville into my early teens . Think I caught the travelling bug from all of that and then left in 83 and went to port macquarie , sydney then perth . Lived in perth from 89 to 2003 , lovely place and I regret leaving at times , but you gotta do what ya gotta do . So I moved to tokyo , ha ha , then back home in 2004 where I have actually settled down and now seem to either get rained on daily or cooked from the humidity . Did I say I miss perth ? Checked this guys channel out and I think you will be waiting to split the cases

I finally got it sorted. I hadn't applied the tension on the spring during assembly. Took me ten minuets to rectify. Then i cracked the case on reassembly! luckily I was able to take it into work have it xray, prepped, welded and dye pen within a couple of hours. Finally back in the frame and moving on to carbs.
Thanks for the advise.
