New to the sight cb750 1974

Hello to all, I have a 1974 cb 750 that I have had for a long time. It has not been run for about 7 years.I have always keep it in side and covered. Long story short I turned the big 50 and the bike turned 40 so it,s time to get back out on the road. I would just like somebody to keep me from messing to much up. I have all ready took the carbs and tank off and have them soaking in desiel fuel . I had a hard time getting the carbs off so I cut the rubber tubes that hold them on . just looked on the e-net thier goes a 100 bucks. just looking for a little help everynow and then. aww man,,you should never destroy parts. the old boots if not cracked completely through coulda been boiled with wintergreen oil and water to salvage them and reuse. i dont have any spares i wish to sell right now,perhaps someone does but they are pricey as you found out. fasental has clamps that will work but i cannot recall the size and you have to buy in a bag of fifty anyways. there is a shop in oklahoma that sells them individually though,and they may have some boots too. good people and great to do business with,

Thank you for the info. I guess I joined a little late. I have the carbs in dielsel fuel they don,t look bad but I am no carb man should i just clean are get kits

if the rubber parts look good,i would try just a cleaning.if you are changing air filter or pipes diffrent from the originals you will more than likely need bigger main jets,,but cross that bridge when it comes. truth be told i have never seen a set of carbs that did not come off a few times for jetting or more cleaning once the bike has come back to life.

losttravlyr every thing is going to stay stock airbox and tubes look good probably could of saved main tubes just didn,t know thank,s for your help i am sure i will have more Q,s. My tank is rusty after I clean it do you recamend to seal are not and thank,s again

I would certainly seal the tank after cleaning to prevent pins holes forming were the rust left pitting. I personally recommend Casswell sealer, and the last issue of Motorcycle Classic's Mag had a little piece in the repair section recommending it too. For the carb rubbers try Dreadstar who just posted on several threads here advertising he has lots of 750 parts. I don't know him or used him for any parts yet, but could be worth the effort. ???

You can find cheap used carb rubbers on ebay. You will definitely need to open up the carbs to clean them thoroughly if they have set for any length of time. The emulsion tubes and the idle jets in particular need to be removed to make sure all the holes are open. Take a look at the needle and seat which more than likely will need replaced or you will fight overflowing carbs later. While apart check condition of the floats and make sure they will actually float and adjust float level. Actual carb cleaner will work far better and faster then diesel fuel will. Also be sure to do a search on here, there has been several posts and discussions regarding what to do with a bike that has been sitting for years.

tommycarl I am about 30 miles west of Alton in a little town called Hardin Population less than 1000. where is Hoopeston

Hoopeston is about 50 miles northeast of Champaign. I'm surprised you haven't heard of our big city... population around 5,000.

I was hoping you were closer.
