New project CB750F1

Forgot to mention they are the original tank badges with the black painted in with an artist paint brush, I used Eastwood gloss black chassis paint which I had from painting my truck chassis, my thinking being it is direct to metal and if it sticks to the chassis it should stick to the badges.

No I got the transfers from David Silver, first time I've done transfers since my childhood days of Airfix and Revell models so was a bit scary to get them in the right place but it all ended well in the end.
I painted the red on the chrome trims on the seat sides seems to have worked ok time will tell, the "chrome"trim round the back of the seat was a particular success it fitted perfectly https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111474236893 for anyone in UK doing an F1 or maybe F2 do they have this as well?
Going to get stuck into the wiring next as I had to disconnect it all to fit the handlebars and controls.

I'm sure that I've got some of that stuff somewhere.
IIRC 8mm sounds big but when fitted it's actually much smaller than the original Honda trim.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a larger size yet.

I had to do a little minor reshaping of the stainless end clips to get them to fit well as the profile of the trim is slightly more rounded than the original but you wouldn't know once it's on.
I've been considering whether to fit some over the bottom seam of the tank just to finish it off better but not decided yet.

Spent what seemed like hours yesterday trying to get my seat to sit straight only to find I'd fitted the hige part that bolts to the frame back to front! these things are certainly sent to try us.
Back to the wiring now, I have what looks like a light blue, or could be grey, poking out of the main harness beside the steering head and can't find what it's for light blue suggests indicators but I have identified all four of them and the repeaters or is it just another red herring from Mr Honda?

Looks like the random pale blue wire is not needed as I now have everything working, horn, lights, indicators with beeper! engine cranks.
Will get the IV connected next and see if it still runs. Getting close to the first test ride since 2007!

Feed wire for the audible indicator warning buzzer ?
I vaguely remember that Honda introduced this new "safety " feature, but it was quickly removed because it could allegedly confuse blind people waiting at pedestrian controlled crossings.

Yes my BMW R100T has one too, can't really see the confusion of a slow beep from the indicators with the rapid beeping of a ped x ing though?
Anyway having a day off from the bike today as have a lot of grass to cut before this rain that's forecast to last for the next week.
And the bleeper is wired between ignition live black and Brown/Blue from the left hand control switch, and light blue is rh indicator but the spare connection is not connected to the rh indicators in any way.

Well after a lot of thought and research I've decided to refit the original headlight in place of the replacement which wasn't working out in a few ways, however, the original wasn't in a useable condition due to badly corroded rim, corrosion of the reflector of the "sealed beam" unit (a bulb sealed into the reflector) I wanted to modernise it and fit an H4 light unit which means sourcing a new rim along with the inner and outer rims to secure the H4 light unit. Anyway in the process of cross referencing part numbers etc. I came across a kit of all the neccessary parts from a supplier in Germany so I've placed the order, I already have several H4 light units to choose from which should fit.
Here's a link to the kit https://www.getor.de/Lamp-ring-set-chrome-for-Honda-CB-450-500-550-750-33101-300-673 if anyone else is interested in this update.

I have come up agaainst a problem with my rebuild in that there is no waay all the wires I have at the front of the bike will fit inside the headlight bowl so have started to think that the only way to make the required connections will be to make them outside the bowl and just have the headlight and pilot bulb wires inside, has anyone else done this with pictures to show how it was acheived?
The wiring diagram I am using shows two four way connectors that I can easily replicate I have a good assortment of various plugs and sockets available to me to make these connections.

Do you have the plastic wiring junction box which fixes to the front down tubes on the frame ?
That's where the surplus wiring connections are supposed to go, but apparently you need to be a magician to get everything to fit in there.
You could try modifying the wiring harness to put the connections under the fuel tank, (IIRC my GS750 was like that), or you could maybe 3D print a larger connector box on the front of the frame.
Probably not very elegant but more accessible

Yes the box is long gone just the bracket remains! I did purchase a small junction box but it was way too small to get everything in and a bigger box would just be too ugly I think. My current plan is to make up a modified harness with connections under the tank with multi-way plugs. More delays to the first road test!

Had an idea that this might happen , otherwise why did they do the wiring box on the frame . Have you looked for a different hedlight bucket ? I think though , that if you did use another years/model headlight , it will mount differently so you will need brackets aswell

I did think about that as I think the F1 bucket is not as deep as maybe K for instance but it would mean a total rework of the front as there is little space behind the bucket to accommodate a deeper one. Looks like a rehash of the front part of the loom to bring connectors under the tank so it will be nice and tidy and tucked out of sight, after all it’s never going to be concours! just a tidy weekend toy.

Yes , I too have faced the spagetti monster and lived to tell the tale . If you did get another bucket , all you would have to do is get some aftermarket brackets . There are lots out there from cheap to expensive

I really don't think that there's any need for that knotted mess of wiring inside the headlight bowl.
Every component except for the headlight itself could have its wiring length increased and the connections moved under the tank.
Just depends on how much effort you are prepared to make to get the result you want.
Motor manufacturers obviously try to keep costs to a minimum when designing the wiring layout.
Saving £5 here or there might seem insignificant but not when you build a million vehicles to the same design.
Design your own wiring system as if you were building a custom built bike, and you can add all those good features you want.

My shiny red paint job on my headlight is as custom as I want to go in this area is as off piste as I want to go in this area so will be revamping the loom to sort out this mess. Having a week away in our Moho so will sketch out some ideas to get into it when we get back next week. I’m sure I can reduce the number of ground wires with a bit of thought as a starting point.

It's not that hard to fit the wiring in the headlight bucket. Take your time, straighten out the wadded up wires, pair up those that are to be connected (before actually connecting anything), and start to organize the wire pairs around the outer perimeter of the bucket. You need to leave room for the deep connector on the back of the headlight. This approach works much better than just cramming everything into the middle of the bucket and then wondering why the headlight won't fit. I have actually added a couple of relays in the headlight bucket and still have plenty of room.

Been spending time today getting a coat of high build primer on the frame then tackled the brake master cylinders front and rear, both the rear ones I had to work with had the pistons seized in the bore but a bit of sideways thinking had them both stripped and in the ultrasonic bath, the front one was free so will strip that one next.
Next I stripped the headlight unit, I have the UK type with a Stanley "sealed beam unit" with a bulb inside! very wierd! anyway the silvering on the reflector is in a bad way so will need a replacement. Wondered what options I have, I'd like to go to a halogen or LED type but the way the light unit is fitted that may not be a straight swap? Any suggestions?

Are you looking for front chrome engine crash bars?
