New project CB750F1

The pattern (SOHC) ones are £30 from DSS.
I'm intrigued by the "plain ones with no logo", because I've never actually seen these myself.
Plenty of finned cast aluminium ones floating around, I can't stand the sight of them myself

Grewth , I got this over a year ago , cant remember where , but I think I am going to go towards the SOHC

The "made in Taiwan " would suggest EMGO
Maybe they realised that they could add "SOHC" to the tooling without infringing Honda's trademarks.

Fitted the front mudguard yesterday which was the last of my newly chromed items, all new stainless steel fasteners fitted including replacements for the rivets as I had to dismantle it before handing it to the chromers, replaced with polished button head screws and aircraft lock nuts as they are nice and slim. New braided brake hoses fitted so next job is to get some fluid in there and check for leaks, I'm a bit unsure about the bleed nipple as the seat in the caliper looks a bit iffy, any way we'll soon see.
Been working through the throttle and clutch cables to try to figure out the route for them as can't find any pictures so far, I guess the clutch cable is strapped to the frame?
Throttle cables look like they should be straightforward under tank to the carbs.
Got underside of the tank and seat hump sprayed but I think I've gone a bit overboard with the candy as the metallic base coat isn't showing through so will need to be a little less heavy handed when I do the top sides!

This is what the manwell has for an F2 and that didnt work for me as I have low bars . So I had to put the brake line ahead of the guage mount and yeah I too have had to cable tie my clutch cable to the front right downtube as it wanted to rest against the header

Thanks mate, more or less what I'd figured, I'm having a bit of trouble with my brake hose too as the one I have was for high bars but it was the only one listed, so how much higher are the high bars, I have about 2" of excess length so might have to rethink the route to get rid of the bends, all the other hoses fitted fine.
I'll get some pictures up later so you can see my progress.

I have fitted the clutch cable and adjusted it with a little free play at the lever, feels smooth, got the throttle cables fitted aftter a lot of trial and error and now set up to operate smoothly between idle and full throttle, I suspect one of them may be incorrect as it is too long by I estimate 6" or so, does anyone have a pair of F1 throttle cables they could measure for me?49E40721-676E-4B38-BBE5-273625B8B827.jpegE1D35186-0A24-4240-9E2E-BB24CB358D9E.jpeg

I have deleted the junction box on the left frame tube and will make the harness connections to and from the handlebar controls in the headlight shell as per other models.

Still have to finish the paintwork and then all those little jobs before it's a running and riding bike again!

Loki

Cannot see them being any different for the models , but hey . Also I cannot quite see , but are your coils on back to front ? It looks like the leads are facing backwards before they go to the plug whereas mine face forward and down

Well spotted sir yes that was the only say to fit them to avoid shorts to the frame on the lt side, pattern coils.
Thanks for the measurements my thought was that maybe the too long one was for high bars?

I'll need to take them off again to compare measurements but one immediate difference is where the outer sheath of both yours are roughly the same mine are not so something is off somewhere!
I have 3 throttle cables, one measures the same as yours and fits fine the other 2 however measure about 110 cm at the outer sheath and threfore too long so I need the closing cable to make it right as the opening cable is correct.

I'm attempting to shorten the too long cable to make it fit, when I tried to unsolder the nipple to remove the inner it wasn't a nipple at all just a lead barrel and it is now a splat on the garage floor!!
So I'm getting a brass barrel nipple to solder on the end once I've shortened the inner cable to the correct length, I may silver solder it on as it's stronger than soft solder.

Loki

Back in the day you could buy extended cables for when you had apehangers , cant remember short ones though only original length . I have seen a few people redo the ends and the nipple just pulled off , then they tried roughing up the cable so the solder would go through and grip better , same result . Dont know about now , but I got all new cables when I started and they were cheap . I have kept the old ones for spares if I break one , But clutch cables were the only one I have ever broken

That’s why I think I’ll silver solder it as the flux is more aggressive to ensure a strong bond. Look up fitting a socket to a work wire on an anchor handler. Lead or resin.
The trick with nipples is get everything scrupulously clean and splay the strands in the pocket in the back of the nipple before soldering I've not had one fail yet and I've done quite a few over the years.
I think the one that fits is correct and the two longer ones are for higher bars, not quite apehangers but just 5 or 6 inches higher than standard.

Loki

Throttle cable successfully shortened to the correct length, silver soldered the brass nipple in place and gave it a good tug to test it, all fitted and throttle action adjusted.
Pulled the bike out into the sunshine to start giving it a good clean and get all the new chrome shining then fitted the Chinese crash bars I took a
chance on, to be fair for the money they seem pretty good.
The cat is head of quality control she always thinks when I put the kneeler down it's for her benefit!!
Nearly forgot filled the front brake and bled it so now have brakes back and front

Very nice , I do like the red ones . Did you paint the pinstripe ?
No I got the transfers from David Silver, first time I've done transfers since my childhood days of Airfix and Revell models so was a bit scary to get them in the right place but it all ended well in the end.
I painted the red on the chrome trims on the seat sides seems to have worked ok time will tell, the "chrome"trim round the back of the seat was a particular success it fitted perfectly https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111474236893 for anyone in UK doing an F1 or maybe F2 do they have this as well?
Going to get stuck into the wiring next as I had to disconnect it all to fit the handlebars and controls.

Loki

Do the F1`s have wiring through the bars like the earlier K`s ? They got lazy on the F2 and just cable tied it to them on the outside . I don`t mind at all as I have seen a lot of video of that struggle , no thanks

I didn't have any issues at all getting the cables down the bars, taped the loose ends up tight then taped a length of ss tig wire to the end then a bit of pushing and pulling and they were through, second one was a bit more fiddly to get it through the middle hole but no big deal.
Wish there weren't so many ground connections in the headlight I've run out of bullets now!
