New project CB750F1

As I need to get the bike off my trolley and on to its wheels I bought a gash pair of K7 fork legs to overhaul with the new incorrect length stanchions that I had surplus while I wait for my legs to come back from the chromers.
They arrived last night so today I stripped and cleaned them then built them up and fitted them to the bike, the bottoms were quite good and they look really good on the bike, tomorrow hopefully I can get the front wheel on so I have access to underneath to fit up my custom exhaust I'm making.
Pictures to follow, also means I can push it outside when the sun is shining!

Had a dry day today so pushed the bike outside, first time in the daylight. 59FE8CA5-0294-46F8-B004-9EBAFBB58FD7.jpeg

No problem, I've learned a lot with this build, like a lot of F1 parts are unique to the F1 so it's essential you find as complete a bike as possible for a project if you want to get your hands dirty!

Headers finished today, just got to do a bit of cleaning up of the welds then a bit of a polish, had to move the collector forward a bit as it fouled the centre stand so will need to modify the tailpipe a bit but nothing serious!

Headers complete and polished, tailpipe completed ready for polishing.
Had an oil leak from the gearbox cover so decided to change the cover gasket, no wonder it was leaking there was no gasket in there! anyway new gasket fitted and all bolted up.5611A9D0-3810-45D1-B893-5433056A834F.jpegF93EA086-A82F-4B06-A8DB-2BF09E0D427E.jpegC8FEED7D-B188-4095-8DA3-05272E2272AF.jpeg

Can't wait to see it again after you've ridden it for a while. My favorite thing about stainless exhaust is the way the heat changes the color. I know a lot of people don't like that but I love the blue fading into the gold as it proceeds down the pipe.

Hi Wally I like the colour changes as well, at least with stainless you can polish it out unlike chrome where you would go through the chrome plating quite quickly with a bit of over enthusiastic polishing!
What do you think of my £12 Chinese muffler, I couldn't resist at that price!

Loki

I think that muffler looks just fine. I like the way you kicked it up. Sort of reminiscent of the old Nortons. I always thought the way they kicked the mufflers up at the back made the bike look fast, even on the side stand.
Have you started the bike yet? Curious as to how loud the cheapo muffler is. My kid had one on the Hornet he just sold, and it sounded pretty good. Better than both of us expected for the money.

Question regarding throttle linkages, I now have a few sets of carbs and there are 2 different throttle linkages on the bar that links the 4 carbs, one has an arm like an L with a hole for the throttle spring to hook into the other has a grooved pin for the top of the spring to hook over, all the springs I have are the same length which when fitted to the pin type makes the throttle very stiff so I'm guessing there is a longer spring for this arrangement which could explain why some people are complaining of a heavy throttle.
I can't see from the parts diagram which arrangement I should have but the part number for my spring is 16036-392-004, would anyone be able to tell me what length that spring should be?
Many Thanks

I managed to find a really good kick start for my bike which only had a couple of small faults in the chrome which I've touched up with some chrome spray and unless you look really closely they don't show so one less item for chroming.
Been working through my carb overhauls so now have three good sets and a fourth set well on the way.

Goodridge brake hoses arrived today, not cheap but I wouldn't trust 50 odd year old brake hoses! Just done a quick trial fit and they look good, they delete the rigid pipe to the front caliper, just as well as mine is looking a bit tired, I'll fit the rear first as without the front brake lever mounted until I get my handlebars back from chrome I can't do much with them.

Rear brake all together now filled with fluid and bled, dropped off my chroming but quoted 10 weeks turnaround so will be stuck to make progress in a lot of areas, been doing battle with the electrics today, I'd previously sorted starting and running with oil light and neutral light so now getting tied in knots with lights and indicators, tail light comes on from parking key position but no lights from the lighting switch except instrument lights working, that's enough for today will have a fresh look in the morning.

Further progress today, finally got a set of F1 forks fitted to my bike, has been a long drawn out process after sending my original legs for chroming in March then getting them returned last week but no work done so looks like we've lost another service provider for our machines :-(
The journey was finally competed by buying a good used pair of correct legs and combining the best bits into a good pair of legs so the K7/K8 legs I had to make up to use the pair of F1 legs which were wrong so they will be put on the growing pile of surplus parts for sale!
Update on the electrics front I found by a process of elimination that my instrument illumination was the source of almost a full earth which dragged the supply down to 2.5v when the lights were switched on, still got to get them out and try to work out where the fault lies but will leave them disconnected for now.
