new headlight install on 74 cb750k1

Im trying to upgrade the headlight on my 74 cb750k to a halogen light but not sure if the higher voltage lamp will work with the stock battery.

any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanx, Mike

12v is 12v dude. If the lamp is not 12v it doesn't go in your bike.

I have a right hand drive Cibie sealed beam in mine. It is far superior to American sealed beams but it seems they are near impossible to get now.

I did find a Cibie conversion kit that lets you use a replaceable H4 halogen bulb. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/headlights/cibie-7-inch-e-approved-headlight-conversions

You can also go with LED these days, if you don't mind spending several hundred dollars.

I like the Cibie because it has an beam pattern I can only describe with a drawing.

Dave thank you for the reply. my bad i meant the watts are higher than what the original was and was wondering if it would have more of a battery drain

If a car sealed beam halogen it's still rated at 55-60 watt.........some non-DOT ones can go higher. If the watts are higher than what you had then yes more drain.

On a CB550F I used the 6024 car one with a slightly lower output alt by dropping the running light portion of the front signals and going to LED taillight, it freed up enough power to double the realworld headlight output and I can even click both high and low on at same time to burn weeds.

Yeah, watts = volts x amps, so you'll pull a bit more current but anything that's a sealed beam won't be a big enough difference to worry about.

In the case of the 550 I was replacing a 40 watt and the lower output of the alt made the upgrade sport a dim brown beam that sucked..........the mods changed that bigtime though.
