New guy Old bike….

Just another new guy post.
I just purchased this 1977 CB750K first bike ever to owe and ride… I have always been scared of bikes, but I have found myself telling my kids just because your scared of something don’t mean you shouldn’t do it. My wife says its my midlife crisis… either way its my new toy/hobby and will be a daily once its safely rideable. Right now I need to get the front brakes done, gas tank mounted correctly and seat mounted as well as gauges and foot pegs. Then I can start address other concerns. I am half thinking I may of bitten off more than I can chew, but I Have a big mouth.
So if anyone can point me in the direction of good reliable site for parts and if anyone can suggest the best manual for this bike. I know there are many of them and I am going to need one if not many of them. I will be using the search bar for many of my question, i am sure most of mine will have been asked at some point.I hope to find another motor to break down and rebuild with my son and daughter and then when my son hits 16 gift this bike to him and then start a new project for me. Unless my daughter tries to take it first, even though its a bit heavy for her.

Anyways here to new adventures and learning new things.

Ill post more detail about what is already done later on, I literally got on here killing time before a job interview…. So many new adventures all in one week.

Best manual is factory honda. Others have miss information and missing information. cb750supply has good reproduction parts and they do monthly givaways on this site so get signed up for that. Also 4into1.com Some parts are still available from honda so check local dealer also. For performance type parts look at cyclexchange.net, aperaceparts.com, dynoman.net. Ebay is also a good source for good used and new parts as well as aftermarket accessories.

A CB750 is a heavy bike: a handful for a starter bike. Safety first, and you're onto the brake issue, I suggest new tires too; those tires aren't good for pavement and that bike is too heavy for off-road.

I actually rode it up and down my road the other day. It’s a long and private road in the middle of nowhere, and I was surprise at how comfortable it was and easy to maneuver. I obviously need more time, but it was killing me to not at least try before I tore it down. Not to mention with my fear of bikes ( 21 years of EMS Ive seen bad bike accidents) If I didn’t jump on it and go I would of probably not been as excited as I am to get it road ready.

It came with a good bit of extra stuff. I have two set of calipers but they don’t look the same so I am guessing one is for a new model.
Has an oil leak on the left side of the bike, which I’ve read that there is a gasket in there that leaks after some time.
The clutch handle is stripped so it slides all over and of course the brake side is well not there. I found the handle and the lines, but I am thinking about getting everything new so I don’t have the try and fix what someone else broke.
The electric start works when it wants to, but I’ve found where the solenoid is also prone to going out.
The tank and seat don’t bolt up well so that’s going to be a little fabrication work for me and my son to do.
And I have no guages and the wiring looks well old, so my son and I are going to build a new harness.
Pretty much the bike I thought was ready to go is turning into a complete tear down, but I’m excited about and so are my kids.
