My new mystery shed & buried find

I emailed Honda Uk at info.uk@honda-eu.com for a dating certificate, to get my 1985-registered CB750F correctly listed as manufactured 1983, to enable Historic status.
They will email back to confirm if they have the info you require, at which point there is a fee for the dating cert. I then sent the cert to DVLA along with a covering letter, the old V5c and a self-addressed stamped envelope with a request that they return the dating cert afterwards.
DVLA returned everything, saying their records had been updated and that I now had to take the new V5c to a vehicle licencing Post Office to declare it as Historic taxation class - but there was nothing on the replacement V5c to say the date of manufacture!
I went to the Post Office (armed with dating cert, MOT exemption declaration and V5c) expecting an argument, the lass scanned the barcode and obviously something on the DVLA system had been altered even though there was nothing about date of manufacture on the V5c, as she just accepted it and processed the application. 2 weeks later I got the new V5c through the post with the bike now listed as "Historic" taxation class.
Excellent info, thank you so much 👍

sorry can't remember a name but i had to join honda owners for them to produce the document that DVLA wouldn't accept , 35£ down the drain years ago. so i didn't renew the membership and don't have the information . Sarah Dolby on honda facebook page found my bike info before the bloomin owners club for free, but as i say DVLA are hard work .!
Thank you 👍

ScottishBadger jammy sod , they told me to get a Glass's check book , a thing i don't think exists anymore because i couldn't find one. once i had the correct year of manufacture they then wanted the month!!!! of manufacture. i told them i would try and get a cheap flight to Japan and have a word with Mr honda. maybe you got a better result because yours was shipped to the UK to a dealer. mine was a JDM bike imported by a person.

ScottishBadger it has just come back to me , they didn't have JDM bikes FULL information. only bikes imported here and made for the European markets. mine was made for the japanese market only.

Thank again to ScottishBadger, I emailed info.uk@honda-eu.com requesting info about my bike (dohc cb75kz RC01 with unusual RC01-100**** series numbers not recorded in available lists, thought to be an early 79 Japanese market machine). They were unable to assist but passed the request to Honda Japan who provided a dating letter and confirmation that the engine/frame were original 17th April 1979. It took a couple of months but DVLA have accepted this without any nonsense and granted historic status. Top forum result, thank you! 🏆

mmmm a lot better result than the troubles i had with DVLA but mine is now historic 3 years later than it should have been. i don't think DVLA wanted the trouble of giving me a 1979 reg once they had issued a 1982 reg, never mind . has your bike got all the writing on the front master cylinder and foot rest plates in Japanese?

No stickers I'm afraid, looking at the master cylinder and hoses I think they've been changed, but per JDM bikes it not got a VIN plate but number stamped on headstock. The RC01-100**** series numbers are apparently the give-away, with no references to them outside of Japanese language documents. All the export numbers and material on line refers to RC01-200**** numbers, supported by the letter from Honda Japan confirming original frame/engine pairing.

yes my frame is stamped RC041000---and engine RC01E4000--- my front master has 4 screws and Japanese writing it was leaking a bit but i managed to seal it and bought a replacement just in case. Sarah Dolby on honda FB page found me the info on my numbers for the FZ she was very helpful but now sadly died RIP Sarah. DVLA put the phone down on me and it took ages for me to get the documents back proving it was a 1979 bike . never mind i've learned to live with it now. it was first registered in the UK in 1992 and that's when the mistake was made but they wouldn't change it.
