barn find 25ys sitting semi inside. he said he got it from his uncle who found it in his friends barn.motor turns freely but he had not had time to mess with it ..bike only has 12,000 miles on it. i got it home and took out of bike because i have a 74 that i have complete just need motor.so i took off rocker arm cover super clean inside no gunk ,when i drained oil it was medium dark brown which is normal that to me means so far looks good doesn't look like motor was misused or burned up. took off timing cover pionts looked little warn but not burnt,.took out plugs looked used , no black oil ,no red rust, just looked like normal wear. carbs wear shoot gas was left in them ...they need rebuilding, i have another set fortunately only problem i need to fix problem i one carb not getting gas i pull all the bowls and one is empty. don't know why.anyway i started compression test in two cylinders but don't have exhaust on or carbs and I'm not sure if that matters. but compression was only 70 in 1 and 65 in 4.going to put carbs on and try again but would like to know what all needs to be together for compression test to be right. I'm not sure i need to do rings but kinda want to open it up and see if i need to replace them.if i can't get a good compression reading probably going to order gasket kit pistons and rings and check my valve seats as well as howne cylinder walls.
