Hi everyone,
Hope someone can help me; I have a 1982 CB750K that I have been having an intermittent charging problem with for a couple years. Seems like it will work for awhile then while riding the battery will go dead. I will give you a timeline as to what I have done so far. It just turned 19,000 miles.
April 2011 - replaced the battery because I didn’t know how old it was, after a couple weeks and maybe a less then 100 miles the battery went dead again.
June 2011 – took to local Honda dealer and they won’t work on bikes this old so took it to another local bike shop. He checked the charging system and said everything was working ok.
July 2011 – took back to same guy and still couldn’t find a problem with charging system. Gave up for the year and didn’t ride very much after that.
May 2012 – checked voltage reg./rec. per Clymer service manual and checked bad, purchased one from Ricks Motorsports, installed and thought problem was fixed seemed to be working ok for a few weeks. Thought I would try taking it out of town for the real test. Made it about 70 miles then died.
June 2012 – took to Honda shop in the town it died in previously. After being in the shop for 2 months they replaced rotor, reg./rec., and battery. Was getting late in the years by now so only put on about 150 miles but all was working good.
May 2013 – took it out for a ride for the 1st time this year, road around town for a couple hours and noticed the starter was turning over slower and slower so I knew it was not fixed. The next time I rode it just rode for about half our and got home and would not start, battery was dead.
I am getting so frustrated, if there was a motorcycle salvage yard near hear it would be gone. Does anyone have any ideas as to where to go from here; I want to get it fixed but tired of paying to get it repaired and still having the same problem a few weeks later.
