Honda project off CL

good morning,
I figure if I tire of this, parting it out will recoup my $ and then some.
Riding has been on my bucket list and with the recent divorce happy dance it's time to do. I saw an inexpensive (to me anyway and looking around seems like good price) 750A so snagged it for $200. gots some 'custom' features and chopping
has compression, the 4 in one exhaust, and a box with the factory parts, clear title


had some car projects...never a 2 wheel, so now my saftey class for my license, and insurance addition to get the title swapped.

Whatever, quite a hack job there, you are missing some major frame under the tank that hooks to the steering head, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some pretty eye-opening handling issues there at any great speed. Making frame fit tank instead of tank fit frame...................how you reduce bad gene pools. The rear brake stay is mounted in such a way to possibly break at a speed panic stop. Or, another accident possibility. At the least the mounting point there has it having to pivot, it's supposed to be mounted solid to swing arm not a frame element.

That brake mount is hilariously dangerous lol Mounted to the passenger peg mount lol About the only thing worth saving is the motor, I would trash everything else and start over. You did ok for $200 if the motor runs, the auto's are getting harder to find and parts are even harder to find.

I appreciate the advice.
I have an angle on another frame, intact. Of course, the seller is waiting on a guy who 'promised last week' he would pick up by Thursday this week, despite me having cash.

an intact, not butchered frame, titled frame should run in what type of price range. On Ebay and on CL i'm seeing a HUGE range of prices.

Any other suggestions about what to save? wouldn't save the wheels/brakes/forks/etc?

I started taking it apart last night, and will start CL'ing the parts probably this weekend. Or sell the whole dog and buy an intact running one to start with.

For $275, if I found a project, I found a Super Sport about 20 miles away for $275 that is completely stock

I'm not thinking anything major, maybe 'bratish'

I hurt every time I run across this thread................that somebody could do that to a bike, even an ATX one. O, the pain. I had an '83 Nighthawk DOHC given to me in sorta the same shape, luckily the motor was in fine shape. Guy 'chopped' it and the correct word there. The rear end extended with the crummiest swing arm welding job I ever saw, then the rear shock placement was on 1/4" plate that had no reinforcement to then sway at any speed over like 20 mph. In short, undriveable.

The angle of the picture is deceiving. The rear brake stay is anchored to the underside of the swingarm and is one of the few things that is installed properly. There is a bolt where the rear footpeg used to be, but it does not go through the brake panel stay arm. jambone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the brake stay is correctly mounted to the underside of the swingarm...

I do concur that the frame should not be used in its current state.

I for one went back and looked again and very hard to tell, but you might be right.

I couldn't help but notice that it came with a box of parts. I have a 77 CB750A and need a park brake switch. This is an automatic specific part located on the aluminum housing just above the rear brake lever. Please do me a solid and see if you have one thats not rotted out at a reasonable price

I too, am in the market for 750a parts, if you find yourself in that position. If you get another frame, enjoy.

I looked at mine, and the swing arm seems okay. I don't like the frame missing under the tank. The more I see bobbers, the more I like what Honda built. Maybe it's an old man thing.

How is this automatic going, I was told by a 750 Guru never by an automatic parts are very hard to come by.

Just the seals and gaskets for the tranny are difficult to find...the rest is just standard 750 stuff.
