Hi, I'm Dave..

I retired last year, and moved away from Adelaide to beautiful Encounter Bay, South Australia, where I am fortunate in having a rather lovely view, which I stream from my balcony 24/7 :

I had a 1972 K2 brand new when I was 16, and have been looking around for a while for a decent example of the same bike, which I have now found!

I don't have much history, but she appears quite original (other than after-market exhaust). There are few things (like the faded gauges) that I will sort, but I think leaving a little patina will work for me - we'll see :)

I hope to be around the forums a bit, and look forward to making some new friends!

Cheers, Dave

So, an update!

Closer inspection of the bike revealed quite a lot of past work that I wasn't happy with, so things got pulled apart, repaired, replaced and polished to my satisfaction. She's not perfect, but does look nice, and yesterday was a test ride which made me VERY happy. A few minor things to do, but now she rides like I think she should. I'll post some pics when I get around to taking some (shortly).

Since my first posts here I've been busy :)
Spent a couple of months travelling.
Bought a fully restored 76 Z1-900, which subsequently turned out to have some disastrous problems and was replaced with a new bike by the builder. Hoping to test ride it today.
Bought a 73 Z1-900 which turned out to have had a numbers job on the frame, and was promptly returned for a refund.
Bought 3 more bikes from an old dude - a 76 750K6, a 76 Goldwing GL-1000, and an 81 CBX Pro-link. Yet to ride any of them as they have sat around for a fair while and need new oil, possibly tyres and a really good cleanup.
My sheds are full now, so quite happy :)

Cheers, Dave

I thought I'd post an update..

The "replacement" Z1-900 also appears to have some serious issues, although it looks and rides beautifully. Still investigating the source of a vibration that would seem to be crankshaft related. Not happy.

The K2 has had a couple of good runs now, and rides really well, very happy.

The other 3 bikes were in a pretty bad state (by my standards) with lots of surface rust and crud, decades old tyres, and old fluids etc.

I worked my way throught the K6 first, and although it still has some cosmetics that can be imporoved (including removing badly applied black paint on the engine block) it rides really nicely now, and looks OK from 10 feet back or so :)

Same with the Wing.. It's had a couple of runs now, and love it. This week it gets new shoes and hopefully a replacement driveshaft will arrive and solve a deceleration vibration that spoils the ride a bit. But I replaced all the fluids, drive belts and painted and polished a fair bit. Same thing, from 10 feet away it looks fantastic, and draws people in from miles away for a look (as does the K2). I think it will be even better with a carby rebuild, but that can be a winter job.

Haven't started on the CBX yet, but hoping to get it on the bench as soon as the Wing is finished. Bit daunting, that one :)

Stay safe, everyone :)

Some pics of the "new" bikes - all before I started work on them, yet to take pictures of them as they are now..
