I believe I melted my last wiring harness because I connected it reverse to the starter solenoid. Now I'm nervous that I'm about to do it again to a brand new harness. Seems like it can be connected either way. Anybody with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY want to chime in on which way?

I don't see what exactly you mean. Do you think the large amp wires were switched? If so that shouldn't matter. It only provides current to the starter when the button is pushed & clutch lever is pulled in while bike is in neutral. When the bike is running no current flows between these terminals. A burnt harness usually indicates a short to ground someplace. Also I have never seen this green connector you have, not sure if it's right.

So I had another thread on here trying to figure out why my harness and neutral wire melted the last time I tried to put my bike together. I got some feedback that said I could have made this connection backwards, sending a hard 12v through anything starting related. You can see that this plug can be seated in either way. I'm trying to make sure I know which way is the correct way. As for the green connector, a Google search for "82 honda cb750c starter solenoid" brings up a million results that look just like this, so I think I'm ok there.

OK, '82' is a DOHC. might be a little different than the SOHCs. Most of the Honda connectors should only go together one way. I agree that reversing the connector will be a problem. The green wire is your ground in that connector. The reds are all 12v power. You should be able to do a continuity check to see which spot on the green connector is the ground.

Red wire, battery, red w/white battery voltage (regulator I think), red w/yellow, starter button, green, ground.
