Apologies for the plethora of questions, but I'm on a learning curve with Honda Fours.
Things have changed in the thirty years since I last owned one.
Are there any replacement parts available for the handlebar switches ?
I'm in need of a knob for the lighting switch (still usable, just about), and the dip switch button has been crushed (not operable).
Now with the Yamaha XS650's that I'm more used to working on, replacement pattern parts have been manufactured for the most commonly damaged/failed bits of switch.
I'm just wondering if anyone had done the same for the Honda, considering what a big seller they were back in the day ?
Otherwise my options would seem to be messing around with a pile of second hand bits on the kitchen table, trying to build up something that actually works properly., or buying new switches altogether.
I'm aware that pattern units are available, but I've always found the original items to be better quality.

Pattern parts are available but I have no experience as to their quality, have you tried David Silver? they sometimes have NOS as they buy in job lots otherwise keep an eye on Fleabay as they do come up, you might need to do a bit of mix and match to make up a complete switch, they are fiddly but not impossible to dismantle, I had to do it for mine but now they all check out fine.
When looking look for switches note that F2 which won't fit as the wires go outside the bars on them instead of inside the bars on the F1.
Another thing to watch for, if yours is a US import the switch gear is different on them.

Thanks for that.
My bike is an original UK reg 1976.
I've noticed that the switchgear on the CB400F and CB550F would appear to be the same, although the wiring sub looms may be different.
But as they're both collectable bikes now, it probably doesn't help much.
I'll have no problem in putting my faith in a fifty year old Honda switch, they survive really well unless they're stored somewhere damp

I bought an american F2 and wanted aussie switches/lights , so I bought a replica and cannibalised the guts out of my old one as it was much better quality . I think the only test will be time , the originals faded in a certain way . Who knows what these will do , but only a paint can away from new
