Sunny, hot and muggy here in Central Florida. I have read posts about oil coolers. Just HOW would I monitor engine temps? Blisters on my ankles?Smell? Touch my tongue to each pipe? Seized engine? I am using an infrared thermometer, what is a healthy temp for a CB750K DOHC? Oil Temp Dipstick thermometer? What would a oil cooler thermostat look like?

I use oil temp dipstick, I am not 100% sure about it's accuracy because gauge housing is metal sitting on hot engine...
I don't live in Fla. but in your case oil cooler would be beneficial, wouldn't worry about thermostat for that application if it does exist.
Engine at you location will have harder time to keep up with heat than let's say Pennsylvania so operating temperatures will be different...

I use an infrared temp gauge on the exhaust ports after a hard ride temp on each port is around 190 to 200 degrees. Good way to make Sure all the cylinders are firing and even tempeture. Idle temp around 160.

I’m in Arizona so we get the heat!!

If I am not mistaken, he was asking about operating oil temperatures...

Bo, yes I was asking about oil temps, but I am grateful for Everybody's input on the best way to decide if I want to add/adapt an oil cooler from an 83 Night Hawk. Too hot equals seized motor, but too cold not so good. Biebs, thank you for your reply. BTW Biebs, back in '80, I was in Yuma the day it rained there. The town shut down while every body went outside to dance in the rain.

Oil coolers have their own problems/maintenance. I'm unsure if the oil pump is strong enough to push the oil through the cooler; surely there are smarter people than me who know the answer. Second, you're introducing more points of failure like o-rings. Unless you're racing, I think the benefit isn't worth it. But the decision is, of course, yours.
If you decide to go that route, update us so we know how it went and you can share your experience with the members.

Keep in mind, if you want to utilize oil cooler proper way, you need to install oil pump from CB 900 or 1100 and also oil pan. Reason for this is, those pumps have double rotors while 750 has one.

I don't plan on pulling the trigger on the oil cooler until A) Overheating presents a problem, or B) I run out of Stock things to fix. I should live so long! I first looked at the CB900 pan and pump upgrade swap, but finding a set of hoses seems daunting. Also, it appeared the routing of those hoses loops them through the exhaust and then back through. If anybody has pics of the CB900 set up, please share. It just occurred to me, more as a thought exercise, to do the double geared oil pump upgrade from CB 900 to increase volume, but use the oil filter mounted cooler from a 83 Nighthawk. Just spit-balling, if that is allowed. I do promise I will document and share any success, or failures. I hope to at least be Fun to Watch. In the mean time, I will look for an Dipstick oil thermometer, preferably specific to my 80 CB750k. Thank you for your interest.

IF you can find CB900 / 1100 kit (pump, pan, lines and cooler) in good condition, swap is not hard to do. Everything is easy swap except welding studs for radiator mount but that can be probably avoided with different bracket configuration available on the market...
I have all of the stuff, just don't have time to put it on. Also CB1100 oil cooler is double the size of 900, but it is hard to find in good condition. If you find one in good condition it will cost ya...

Interesting, fer shur, Do you know if there is any kind of temperature regulation, ie thermostat, in the system? Also the "Distribution plate" is mentioned in some of the descriptions of the swap. I am also hoping some one will share some pics of the hoses installed on the CB900. Thanks
