The Start button on my cb750k 81 is not working. I have a new battery and the headlight and horn work, along with the oil and neutral light. I went to the starter relay and shorted it- Did not hear a click or the starting motor but there were sparks. This is my first time ever tackling an electrical job and I'm unsure on where to begin. I know I should take a multimeter to the kill/ignition wires in the headlight but I'm unsure on what I'm looking for.

Did you try using the screwdriver to connect the two large posts? If you lightly touch either of the posts you will see sparks and arcing. Place the screwdriver firmly on the posts.
If the starter doesn't turn you have a bad starter or a locked engine.
