Just got home with a new-to-me '75 CB750, and in the process of taking pics of the new arrival I was HORRIFIED to note, THE SEAT IS GONE! It was a beautiful gen 1 single-stitch saddle with just a small tear along the upper left seam... and now it's GONE because I never thought to strap the seat down!

REMEMBER! When transporting bikes, ESPECIALLY older ones or ones not known to you, ALWAYS CHECK FOR LOOSE BITS! One strap, even a bungee cord, would have been enough. Now I'm on the hunt for a serviceable gen 1 seat, because I was so starry-eyed by a barn-fresh find I forgot to check ALL the bits!

DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!!

Same thing happened to me with a scabby GS550 I bought a couple of months ago.
I was so thrilled to get the thing and another bike in bits for peanuts, that I totally forgot to check what was holding down the seat.
Fortunately I looked in my mirror just in time to see the seat fly off the bike, go up about 30 feet in the air and apparently land on the front of a car travelling in the opposite direction
TBH I did consider just driving off, but then I stopped to think how many traffic cameras there are in this country.
The good news was that it had just missed the car and landed on the grass verge

Here’s a nice new one.

And hinge kit.

Thanks for the links! That's what I get for clicking "US Only" when searching on ebay, I miss out on some beautiful offshore offerings. However, at $225 shipped (plus the inevitable "tariff"... grumble), that's over twice what I'm paying for a used gen 2 seat with hinges from MRC. Yes, the vinyl is old and damaged, but it'll "go" with the bike rather than stand out as the only brand new part on it. I got the gen 2 because a) I couldn't find any gen 1s, and b) the pan is in gorgeous shape. Later on I may get a repro gen 1 cover and put it on, if I'm that concerned about it... I would like to restore the bike, but I'm not going for concours.

Also landed a set of side covers for $100 from a guy about 3 hours away from me, he's shipping them tomorrow. There are scads of right side CB750 covers on ebay, because nobody ever loses one- it's held on by the oil cap! The LEFT side, however, is like chrome plated chicken lips, so I was glad he had both as I need both.

Now, if I only had time to work on it... LOL
