you could do what i did when my 79 750fz was doing exactly the same as yours at 5000revs , it all pointed to electrics with melted things and a cracked coil, BUT it wasn't. it was the carbs , i messed with it trial and error with the choke and later took off the air filter inner cover. it went like a rocket it was getting too much fuel.
