So, I get the importance of this measurement and setting the float height properly. My question is, which surface do you measure from as your zero point/reference? Is it outer most lip on the carb or the surface where the float bowl gasket rests (gasket removed for the measurement). There is also a small slightly raised area just inboard of the gasket sealing surface on my KEIHIN carbs. The gauges I've seen listed on line seem to take the measurement from the out lip of the carb and service manual isn't very clear. I know how to read verniers and dont really want to buy a specific gage if not necessary. Just looking for some insight on the correct surface to measure from. Thanks in advance

After doing a little more research I found that there is a specific area on the carb face where the measurements are taken from. It's not quite the sealing/gasket face but pretty close to it. Measuring from the face would only be about 1mm - 2mm difference so you'd be close in any case. Thanks.
