Coating inside points cover?

A bit of a random question but does anyone know why the interior surface of the points cover has some strange coating on it, I was thinking about getting mine rechromed but then thought what would be a good treatment for the interior surface?

I can only imagine that it's to stop the cover from resonating with the vibration from the engine.
I've noticed that the pattern "SOHC" ones have a similar coating on the inside, I'd have thought that they would have omitted it if they could get away with it.

I’ve thought about a truck bed spray coating. Don’t know what they actually used but that stuff is great
