Start bike up, shift into first and bike will lurch and die. With bike shut off I will shift into different gears, start back up and bike will shift into first without problems. Go for a quick ride and go through gears without issues. I think my clutch adjustment is okay or is this the problem. Again, thanks for any info you can provide. It is amazing how much I have forgotten about these machines since my first K3 I purchased back in 1975. Current bike had been sitting for about 8 years but I am slowly getting there. Again thanks.

Is the clutch disengaged when you have this lurch? If so it sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. Possible plate or plates could be sticking together when you do your first shift then separates after a little bit of use.

I have the clutch engaged, shift to first and that's when I get the lurch.

Clutch is not fully disengaging. Either clutch adjustment, easy to check. Or, after standing, you have gummy old oil sticking your plates together. Oil change and running it might clear it. Otherwise, plates out and clean.
