Hi, first post!
I recently bought a 1980 750f in a bit of rough shape. I am working on getting it running currently but I am looking at putting a pair of clip ons I have on the bike. Of course I would need short cables for this as well. I know motion pro makes custom cables but I have never ordered from them before and I do not know the dimensions I would need. Also if there are any common issues like clip ons hitting the tank or other clearance issues I would love to hear stories from those who have done this swap.
Thanks for any info!

You will have to be careful with the clip ons hitting the tank, but you should be able to adjust the steering stops. About the cables I don´t know, mine didnt need shorter clutch cable atleast.

How are the steering stops adjusted? Are they welded or bolts?

Cant really tell you... I remember mine being two screws on the lower part of the steering column

You could do the same as that previous owner using a screw/bolt, or you can turn your front forks all the way to each side then tighten down the clip on so they don't hit the tank, or you can lift your front forks in the trees so the clip ons sit higher (but not so much you completely screw up the geometry of the bike.

The easiest way to adjust steering stops is to add an adhesive lead wheel weight to each side. If I was you, I'd do that and try to make it work with the stock cables.

You may find that you hate the clip ons and want to go back. If you like them you can go ahead and do the extra work for a more permanent setup.

Update:
Clip ons from a rz250 will not fit with stock controls and stock levers, not enough length on the bar to fit everything on the clutch side! Didnt even get to check tank clearance but the lean forward was crazy when I tested it with the seat on, most things are back to how they were now minus the bars I ordered some f bars the other day, the only real way these would fit is if I did a signal/light control delete which is too much since I want to ride this legally

Certainly the easiest remedy is a longer set of clip-ons, but there are other ways to fix this. You could go to a master cylinder with a remote reservoir, or if you know someone with access to a lathe you can turn down the end of 7/8 bar stock to make a long handlebar weight.

I don't worry much about tank clearance. If the controls aren't hitting riding it won't be a problem and your thumbs only hit when you're parking or riding REALLY slow. My Commando was like that and I just got used to moving my thumbs out of the way in those situations.

Seems like the wiring wont be a problem tho? You should be able to hide it behind the headlight... Love your Kawasaki

So the bars are permanently attached to the clip on bracket? I just remembered my FZR 600 had replaceable bars. I kept a piece of 7/8" aluminum tube in my track tool box for when (not if) I crashed.
