CB750K5 Wheel swap questions and concerns

Hello all,

I'm a newbie since buying a CB in September. I've been doing my homework and reading tons, no posts.

I'm slowly restoring this CB, and leaning towards Brat style. I would like to swap the wheels to a smaller size. I currently have an 18" rear and a 19" front. I want to go to a 17" rear and a 18" front. I want to go a little wider on each tire also.

Here are my genaral concerns and/or questions; Is there any hidden concern with the current swingarm width or do I need to look at a 1977-78 wider swingarm?

Is there any issue with needing to lower the fork tube length to maintain a level stance?

Finally, Buchannan seem like the obvious and EXPENSIVE choice, are there any others such as using a 1977-78 CB rim, a CB750A rim or GL1000 rims? And, if so, are there any issues with re-lacing the 77-78 rims or GL1000 rims to my current hubs?

Thank-you in advance for reading and commenting, any pictures you have of this already would be great. I would love to hear of any previous experiences doing this. I will start a build thread next, with pictures as I go.

Check out Cycle X also. They have wider, smaller, same size, etc wheels. They can lace different rims to the 750 hubs. They also have a really good idea what fits and what doesn't fit and ideas on how to make it fit.

Different length fork tubes are available it you find you need to do that. You can drop the tubes in the triple clamps at least an inch if needed. If you do a slightly wider rear tire you shouldn't run into too much trouble but if you want to go really wide then you will start running into chain clearance and alignment issues. You can only go so wide before you need to start offsetting sprockets and such to get clearance.

Give Cycle X a look, there are also reasonable on prices and if you call them and talk to Ken he is very knowledgeable.
