I didn't see any posts on this so, I figured I'ld share. I needed to put a new seal on my 1976 fuel cap since repainting the fuel tank. There are 2 types used on these bikes; one with a #3 phillips screw (later models?) & ones that are riveted. After removing all the cracked pieces of the old rubber it looks impossible to put the new rubber ring on the spring loaded center of the cap, as well as there is now a loose washer that needs to go into the rubber ring. What I saw is on the riveted style the spring assy is held in the cap by 4 torsion arms. They can be released by prying gently with bent picks. See my pic below. This is what they look like apart with the new rubber installed. Remember the thin side goes up on the new rubber seal. Lastly I found on ebay some replacement pins with E clips instead of being rivets.
