Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here so please be forgiving :)
I'm not so familiar with CB750 family that's why I need some support/clarification from expert' side. As you can see my bike has not original painting and some details are also not acc. to original specification.
Would you advice how to recognize what exactly color had been painted originally? I'd like to restore this bike as much as possible to former shape and completion.
Thank you for your advice.
Frame S/N is CB750G1006265.

Regards,
Marcin

Try looking at the underside of the tank, or normally unseen areas of the side panel and seat tail.

Yeap; this is what I will do for sure. Does this bike should have any label with color code? Or such info is hidden behind vin number?

Small update from my garage… situation is clarifying a little bit 😉

Could you advice?... What kind of colour is hidden on my tank? I've found two options and personally I would go with Candy Presto Red but I'm not sure how this color looks like in reality.
Thanks!

Difficult to be sure the photos are showing true. From the image I can see, it's not Antares Red, it's too light.

Candy Presto Red sounds about right for a F2 or F3 maybe.
Candy Antares Red was only used on the CB750F1 AFAIK.

Where in the world was this bike originally sold ?
I'm guessing (probably wrongly) that these bikes were never sold in Poland in 1978, so the original sale location was probably West Germany (as it was then)

Original sales location was Netherland and this bike's come from that market to Poland. So... highly possible the original was more or less like below at enclosed photo? I noticed it's called CB750F3; correct?
Anyway yesterday I did inspection of front and rear brakes and now this chapter is closed and finished. Next week I'm going to start fight agains carburators; I hope finally bike will start up and will have first ride.

Allegedly the F3 was only sold in the USA so I'd think that you've got an F2, but having said that, anything is possible.
Good luck with those PD type carbs, I honestly think the original ones were better

Grewth , F3`s had the lower tailight , marcin`s bike must be what you would call a very late F2

You mean PD carbs are tricky? What's wrong with those carbs? This is my next step; probably next week i will do an inspection, cleaning, etc.
For this moment i fight againsr left crank engine cover which is cracked and leaking.... screws are totally stucked and I'm looking for a way how to release them...

I have to say that I ran a CB550F for years, and that had PD type carbs (obviously smaller than the 750), with no carb problems at all, totally reliable in fact.
With the 750, the concensus of opinion seems to be that the PD carbs are unnecessarily complex, the fuel mixture was apparently set as lean as possible, in order to reduce emissions, with the accelerator pump fitted to compensate.
Probably good news if fuel economy is a big issue, but I think the early type carbs are much more user friendly.
You can remove the float bowls without any tools at all.

I just remembered that I've got a ratty dog eared parts book for the F2 here as well as the F1.
From what I can make out there were never any replacement tank stripes available from Honda, anything that you find now is reproduction or whatever you want to call it.
But the finger wagging warning sticker on the filler flap was available from Honda.
Final image is the F1 paint codes

Thanks for response! I'm wonder what I will found out inside of the carbs :)
Just to be sure; I was searching eBay for tank decals; is it true that Honda used the same for black and red tanks? Both look almost the same; maybe it is question of white balance, I'm not sure. For black decal looks more orange, for red it's colse to "red" (?). I will ask seller about it; maybe they have also dedicated decal for Red tanks, not only for black ones.
Photos below downloaded from the web... not mine :)

It`s personal choice , I got one brand new in 1978 and it was black , so I got another black one . Yours was red , so maybe keep that colour , but it is all up to you . Just dont do what I did to my original bikes paint

Nice photos! ;)
Honestly black is my favorite scheme, but on the other hand red's been from the beginning on this bike. Hard choice....
