Good evening all.
I have recently purchased a Cb750 four k2 there is fuel leaking from the overflow pipes.
I have cleaned out the jets, replaced float valves and floats (I noticed no 3 carb main jet housing has a hairline crack down the side). Someone who has probably over tightened the main jet in the past.
I rebuilt the carbs (not repaired the crack) to see what happens.
Bike starts and runs as sweet as a nut but after a few days fuel leaks from 2 of the overflow pipes (one being no 3).
I have carburetor repair epoxy resin, I have read in the past this was used with a spent bullet shell has someone seen this before I think it was a .38 caliber.
Also can someone please confirm the correct angle that the carbs should be sat when setting the float height.
I know the float should not be pressing down on the valve but there are so many posts stating different things.
I know the float height settings and have used a sliding gauge to do this.
Thanks In advance
Craig.

Here are a few examples of how people think it should be done . I did the slight angle with my PD41`s and have had no leaks . Check your overflow tubes aswell , as they can split with old age

Thanks for the reply hinksy. I have seen these before. I set mine on a slight angle. Looking at your image I will try doing them at the same angle.
Thanks again

I have a similarly damaged carb, as the outside of the casting is around 11mm I was thinking of making a repair sleeve with a piece of M12 copper pipe but wasn't sure what to seal it in place with, what is the fuel resistant resin you mentioned?
Thanks

Loki

Hi Loki,
I have ordered brass pipes but so far the outer diameter is too wide to fit between the jet housings.
I have attached the resin info for you (not tried it yet due to trying to find the correct pipe)
Give me a couple of weeks and I will update you on the results.
Hope this helps
Shreks

Thanks for the epoxy info, I'll try to find it online.

Setting carb floats I was always led to believe you tilt the carb so that the float closes the needle valve without compressing the spring plunger, a bit tricky I know but that's how I've always done mine.

No drama s you're welcome.
Yes that's how I have done mine, all four were leaking from the overflows when I first got the bike. Now only 2 with the worst being the one with the cracked jet housing.
A bit of a pain, if the carbs are sitting a couple of degrees off, then the float height can be out by a couple of mm.
Hopefully when I repair the housing and do another reset it will be good.
Will let you know how I get on
Cheers for taking the time to send me the info

Down under we mainly use araldhite , which is a two part epoxy like jb weld . Jb weld is now readily available here and there are so many different types it is confusing , at least most of them are supposed to be fuel resistant . Have you used it before ? or are you going out on a limb ? I wouldnt have thought the high heat was neccesary , but hey I`m no eggspurt . Also have you checked your floats for leaks ? If they have any they will not cut off the fuel flow and overfill the bowl

Hi hinksy
Not used JB weld yet, I read somewhere that someone had used it with a .45 caliber shell (slid over the main jet housing) and it seems to have worked.
Floats and float valves are all new, I have also checked bowls and overflow tubes for leaks.
Thanks for the input bud
