Ok, got a small hole on the side of a ‘79 750K,
Took the Vance covers off and both cam chains are loose. Unscrews the bolts and rotated the engine until. Tight and then tighten the bolts.
Question: how much play if any should there be on the cam chain?

Walter/Houston

Thank you,
I will check my valves now and put valve cover back on. I have a ‘79 and an ‘81. So, I work on one and ride one.

Ok,
So on the cam chain, there are two. The front one towards the front tire is tight. The back one towards the rear tire. loose the two bolts there. Rotated the 17mm bolt ten to twelve times. It get tight then loose then tight. Tighten the two
back bolts while tight. Rotated the 17mm again. Still get loose then tight.
Any ideas
Walter

One other. The cam chain which runs straight is the tight one. The cam chain which runs vertical is the one which is tight loose tight.
I fell that is the one for the back bolts.

Help on the Cam Chain
‘79 750K
As I rotate with 17mm wrench the front cam chain will get tight then loose then tight.
I have tightened the tension bolt while tight.
But still while turning the 17mm wrench.
It will get tight then loose.
Should I replace just the front tensioner?
The ‘79 had 7976 miles.

Sounds like either the tensioner isnt moving correct or the chain is stretched past what the tensioner can account for. Pretty sure they are no longer available from honda, it has been hard for many people to find them as they are common issue and aftermarket doesnt supply them as far as I have found
