Hello all,

I am new to this site and the hobby in general and I lack a lot of knowledge about the rebuild process. I am hoping someone here can give me some information about a piece that was broken off in the teardown process. (see pictures) I do not know it this piece is significant enough to warrant junking the engine or if I should just ignore it and move on. I did see another post with a similar issue but that piece took out a large chunk of the case and look to have created a hole in it where as mine did not. I have attached pictures showing the piece that broke off as well as the place it broke off from.

Thank you in advance,

From the pics that you have it looks like it shouldn't be a problem. I would go ahead and finish the rebuild. Before rebuilding I would try to find out what caused the break and make sure that won't happen again to another area of the engine.

Thank you for the response. Im fairly certain the cam chain bunched up and snapped it off when I was trying to break the bolt loose that holds the rotor, but the cam chain guide was also broken when I got the bike to maybe it was already broken. So, idk. Ill keep going with the rebuild, hopefully it wont be an issue.

I'm sorry to say that the piece in the picture does NOT look to me like the piece off the spot in the other picture. Your piece has an "L" profile & the spot has a "T" looking with a fat head to me. But I agree if the cam chain is adjusted correctly, you should be OK. It's not roller chain, so it's not as sensitive to slack as they are.
