Battery terminals sparks

Im trying to replace my battery and it sparks real bad and blew a wire in half immediately. Anyone ever have this problem or have any solutions? Ive gone over relays,connections,switch positions… any ideas?

You have a hot wire that has become grounded or a ground wire that's connected to a hot wire. I would check your wires out. Was the key on when that happened? If not then most likely a wire between the battery and the ignition switch or any wire not connected with the switch.
