Hi all I'm in the middle of rebuilding a set of carbs for my CB750F1, all going well considering how gummed up they were, not my fault that's how I got them so cheap! Anyway I'm missing 3 of the M4 lock nuts for the slide adjusters, does anybody know of a source for these 10mm hex nuts? I'm trying breakers just now but not having much luck so far. I could just go with some standard M4 nuts with washers but then it's a faff with 2 different spanner sizes when balancing the carbs.
And another thing, did these carbs come with float needle valves without the spring? The ones I took out of these carbs seem to be solid, I've tried pulling and twisting the pip on the end but it all seems to be one piece.

Another question while I'm on the subject how to remove the plastic caps from the idle mixture screws and how to set them when replaced, want to remove the screws to check all is clear in there.

HELLO LOKI, the rubber caps on the mixture screws are removed with a heat gun, softened by heat and a screwdriver. The base of the screw will be exposed. The vice that puts them back on are safety caps so they cannot be modified due to pollution regulations. Generally, they were calibrated lean to less pollution, but this made the engine run much hotter. Remember, before removing the jets, count the turns each one has up to the stop. I divide the turns into quarters and 1/4, then if I unscrew them, they generally go between two and no more than 3 turns.

HELLO!

Thanks so much for the advice, I suspected heat might be involved!

Just ordered some M10 stainless steel hex bar so I can make some nuts, I'll probably make a few extra while it's in the lathe, I'm sure they'll come in handy some time!
BTW got the idle mixture screws out today and gave all the passages a good clean out so hopefully I have at least one good set of carbs for when the time comes.
Top overhaul next!
