I've got a 1977 CB750F2 and would like to add a compass to it.

I like trying unknown country roads, and knowing my direction makes it a lot easier to navigate.

I've seen all the smaller compasses that you can find online or at the automobile stores and thought I might be able just to use a dollop of Shoe Goo or similar removable adhesives to secure it to the headlight shell putting it right in front of my speedometer and tach. Perfect for viewing.

However, I'm thinking with all that metal in that area it would throw the magnetic compass off.

Has anyone done this successfully ?

Back when I was touring, I used to use my automotive GPS. I'd set my destination, and then ignore the GPS and ride whichever roads I wanted in the general direction I was headed. Sometime in the afternoon, I'd consult the GPS and then follow it to my final destination.
Not sure I'd trust a cheapo compass unless it had adjustments to account for the mass of the bike.
