hello all, i am new here, i just bought a 1981 cb750c.i as some would call, feild stripped it, i am taking the engine and putting it into a lawn mower, i took the rearend off. forks and front, its a frame, engine and some eletric. i bought for what the guy said was scrap value(250) it turns over and everything seems to work, it was mising a starter, has a cracked coil and needs intake boots, so my quetions are
1) are these pretty reliable engines
2)if i would cut a hole in the frame for the oil pan should i put a fan for it or not?
3) is this engine known for any problems?

Well one problem I see is airflow to keep it cool. They are meant to go road and highway speeds to keep them cool....thats a lot of airflow. If you dont have airflow they will cook in short time.

They have a lot of problems with valves getting tight and burning, the carbs are absolute garbage. Timing tensioner and other components are no longer available with little to no aftermarket support so when the timing chain guides and tensioner break you have no replacements except looking for used parts in better shape then yours.....sometimes new oem parts pop up but not readily.

@mrtwowheel a racing lawnmower without blades whatsoever, that is the first rule of lawnmower racing. and I never had a deck with this so I am going to bolt on 2 skid steer bucket edges as a deck/floorboard and to lower the center of gravity. and it wont be raced at the county fair because there is not any races. outs id kinda dumb but it will be for fun more
