New to me 1981 CB750 Custom (DOHC), and I can't get the timing chain(s) to stop slapping, they just fall out of adjustment or slap at deceleration, acceleration, etc. so Imma thinking the cam chain tensioners are no longer doing their job (based on my web searches). I'm more of a parts changer than a mechanic; I do my own basic maintenance and replace external parts (rec/reg, etc) when advised, that's about it. I bought NOS tensioners ready to put on, but I've never opened up an engine before, nor removed an engine from the frame, etc. I feel that I need to do my own repairs as much as possible without the results being a danger to me or anyone else, but I'm very nervous about this operation. Is it a reasonable operation for a noob? I've found some YouTube videos but they scare me. I also don't want this to become an entire summer project for me when it would take an knowledgeable person a few hours. Or should I leave this job to those who know what they are doing, and just pay what it's worth, so I can get back to riding?
