Need a small amount of touch-up paint for the top portion of the tank. Believe one of the colors is R-104C-U Candy muse red, however, I think this is the lighter red color. Can't seem to find code or color for the darker tank top.
Appreciate any help.
Tanks!

If you have some excess paint amount you might try mixing the faintest amount of black in the lighter color to see if it approaches the darker color. Not all two tones do that but many do.

If you have a good eye for color then a strong light on both will pretty much settle it. Careful, it does not take nearly as much black to go too far as one thinks and you can always add more.

I used to match corporation trademark emblem colors all the time that had no numbers to begin with, you had to tell them how to get there.

Thank you. Will consider. My wife worked for PPG for 35 years....she has a much better eye for color. Truthfully, for the minuscule amount that I need, trying to match auto touch-up pens might be easier.
Appreciate the reply. Thank you.

Always if possible match to BIGGER samples, the smaller they get the more error you will have matching. I used to sell touchup paint too and can tell you that say in the metallic reds you can have 5 numbers that 'match' in very small spots and shoot the paint on bigger samples and the differences become striking.

Let it dry well too, some colors will change tint as they dry, I'm sure she knows that too.

FYI, often candy colors are transparent and depend on the correct base color below them to hit proper tint. Gold or silver usually.

Found the paint codes accidentally on Partszilla site fuel tank parts diagram. Darker color for the '79 LTD is Candy Bayard Brown YR106CU. Red is Candy Muse Red R104CU. This company has paint kits matching those codes.....https://colorndrive.com/en/motos---motorcycles-touch-up-paint.
I know I'm dragging up a zombie thread here, but I'm getting ready to repaint my '79 CB750Ltd in the factory colors and there is some question as to what they are. @Bloody Mary seems pretty positive about the color names but a lot of info I find says Candy Muse Red/Red for the Anniversary bike. I found both the Candy Bayard Brown and the Candy Muse Red available on the VMR website but there are no color chips shown.
Does anyone know for sure which colors I need? I'd hate to spend what they want for those colors and find out they were wrong. FYI, I already have the stripe kit from 4 into 1 and it looks great. Just need the paint now.

The only place I even found them was VMR. I contacted them and they said they'd try and find some spray outs.
The guy couldn't find any spray-outs, so he offered to sell me small amounts of both colors so I could do my own. I'll shelve this problem until I get to my winter home, where I have more tools and facilities to work with. I sent him a pic of the bike and he's pretty sure that the Candy Muse Red is right for the lighter color, but the darker color doesn't really show well in photos so he couldn't be sure of that one.

The description of this bike should have what you are looking for..

Thanks! That's the first time I've seen both colors referenced together outside of this thread. Most descriptions say Candy Muse Red/Red, which isn't much help.
My current Ltd is my 2nd one, but I've had my eye on another one out here in Cali that's on Marketplace. If I didn't live in a motorhome and actually had an actual home base, I'd probably snatch that one up, too. They're kind of addicting.

I agree. I have a ‘79 Limited I absolutely love. Finally got it started about 9 months ago after the previous owner had let it sit for 20 plus years. Any tips from own ‘79 owner to another?

Don't let it sit. I manage to get mine out a couple of times a month even in the cold months. Also, don't sell it :)

The teal one is the first I had back in '93. Paint and upholstery were just too far gone to save. I worked at a car dealership, so the painter did the job for free and his nephew re-did the seat for about $50.

The second pic is my current bike before the "incident".

Third pic is after the "incident", and the reason for needing the paint info.

I refuse to take pictures of the good-but-non-matching tank it's currently wearing, but that hasn't stopped me from riding it. I might take a pic just before I take the tank off to send it to the painter, just to complete the set.

The last pic is the first 750 I ever owned, so I have experience on the single cam side of the house also. Just ignore my wife's Sporty.

I love Honda's Teal.....Honda 70, '75/'76 GoldWing. Blue in some light and Green in others. Check out the new Jeeps for the fun of it, that is a beautiful Teal.
I was a GM dealer service tech for 23 years. '92-'93 is when they came out with the Teal on Grand Ams and a few other lines. I wanted that color because of the same flop you're describing, but it was too new at the time and the body shop didn't have the formula yet. I ended looked through a giant color chip book and picked a Chrysler color called Glamour Turquoise that was fairly close. After that pic was taken, I pulled the Windjammer off the SOHC bike. had it color matched to the DOHC bike and moved it over. It looked much better on a bike with a normal length front end and matching color.

Hi Old Crow. I was in a similar position with my 76 Gl1000 LTD. Theres almost no info anywhere about the colour I need and after finding VMR I DID buy the expensive paint from them. Kalvin is great and It's really nice paint that finishes up well w a 2 part hardener. The bad new is that it wasnt a good match to the original cololur. I have been searching for a better match and I'm thinking it's the Bayard Brown. Did you order the paint? And how well did it match the original?

Not yet. I'm currently wrapping up a summer job in California, in about 3 weeks I'll be returning to Arkansas and ordering the small samples he promised me. I'll post an update to this thread when I get the spray-outs done.

Ok great! Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for that or send me a message if you remember please. In the meantime I may even send Kalvin my tank crotch piece to try n find a better match. Fingers crossed for both of us! 🤞
