Okay, so I'm getting ready to replace the chain and sprockets on my '79. I 'm a big guy (350-ish), so I want to stay with the stock gearing. I figure it'll be easier on the clutch that way, and I ride mostly small back roads in the mountains rather than freeways, so I don't think I need higher gearing anyway.

I see a lot of posts where guys are converting the 630 chain to a 530 setup. I wonder just what the advantage to this is, especially in my case where I'm not changing the gearing. Is it to provide extra clearance to run an O-ring chain? Is it just because of a better selection of sprocket sizes? Is it because some people will change out stuff just to say they did?

My personal feeling is that the Honda engineers probably had a good reason to boost the chain size when they redesigned the engine, and if there's no real good reason to downsize to the 530, I'd like to go with the 630 O-ring setup.
