79 CB750KZ starter motor clutch

Hi guys, I've just got hold of a 79 CB750KZ and the starter motor is spinning but not turning over the engine. I've had the left-hand cover off and there's no damage to any of the teeth so I'm guessing it's the clutch. Can I just take the ATU off and remove the clutch?
