Hi All,
I'm trying to restore a 79K to original condition. Apparently, no OEM or re-manufactured 4-2-4 pipes exist. I do have a set of corroded OEM pipes though. Does anyone know of a fabricator who could use the OEM pipes as a template to build new ones?
Thanks!
-Doug

Hey Doug,
I see you’re from Charleston. I’m from Columbia! There is an exhaust shop in Columbia near/behind the Colonial Life Center that does exhaust work. They may do some fabrication, but I can’t promise. If you’re interested I can look for their name.
There is also a shop in a West Columbia that specializes in older bikes like this. Their name is RestoMoto.
I have a 1979 Limited Edition with some older/rusted exhaust. Definitely will follow this to see what you find.

Thanks for the response Chip. I’m definitely interested in the name of the exhaust shop if you get a chance. I’ll give RestoMoto a try too. I’ll keep you posted on potential solutions.
Best,

The place is called “the Muffler Shop” located at
918 Huger Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Phone number I found: +1 (803) 252-5595.

RestoMoto should also be able to help!

Is your bike a limited edition ‘79?

It may be cheaper to find a better set off of forums, Ebay, or FB Marketplace.
I've been looking for about a year now. They occasionally pop-up, but so far they've been in worse shape than my set. I've explored getting them re-chromed, but shops won't take pipes that have corrosion because it corrupts the plating bath.
