I bought the bike about a month ago and was assured that all I needed to do was clean the carbs and free the brakes. She's been sitting for at least 2 years. So after cleaning the carbs she fired right up, but sounded pretty noisy from the head. Long story short I took the valve cover off to check the shims, the main cam chain is loose. I went through the procedure to adjust them and it looks like the adjuster on the back side of the cylinder is broken. I can take a screw driver and move the top towards the can chain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey brother, it's impossible without removing the engine from the frame.
If you're only going to replace the tensioner, you could try removing the intake and exhaust camshafts to give yourself some space. But unfortunately, if the tensioner is broken, it's very likely the chain is stretched.
If you see that the tensioner is damaged, as if from even wear, the chain has reached the end of its life. One way to check if your chain is stretched is to try moving a link with your finger at the sprocket. If there's any play, even a little, it's because it has reached the end of its life. You can also check if the tensioner is at its limit by seeing if the two upper wings are touching.
