78 750k question

What exactly makes a CB750 a “super sport” as opposed to regular? I’m rebuilding a 78 750E engine— I noticed the transmission gears, my lower case has two groves for the final drive bearing clip, and also the final drive are different—also mine has the shift pattern on the side cover, the junk motor I bought doesn’t— the cylinders, head & valve train seems the same—-

Yours is just a standard K motor by the numbers. The 77/78 supersports have different head, cylinders, pistons, transmission gear ratios, the early 75/76 are more similar to the standard K motor. post more pics of stuff you have questions on if you want.

thank you— I wasn’t sure exactly what I had because both engines are stamped CB750E— I will definitely post other things as I move along, and I feel like the forms have people in them that have way more than what I know.

The 77/78 engine will have cb750FE- stamps, they are also painted black
