So this bike has sat for 6 years and has 23k for miles on it I acquired the bike for free so I dont have much in it just got it running on four cylinders last night after replacing plugs and wires im missing the side cover for airbox and filter im assuming.this is why it wont run the greatest because of the cv carbs would sliding a air filter in and covering the side of air box be suffice is this cover tight? Also waiting on a battery as money is tight one payday at time!!! All new cables and front master cleaned carbs and changed the oil

It should idle fine with no air filter, it just won't run right higher than that. meaning you can check the idle quality as to how well you cleaned the carbs. What the carbs get cleaned for in 90% of the cases.
Set the valves, nobody ever does and where the perceived carb issues come from. Yes, you need the proper PAPER air filter in there. A spring goes under it, the bike would run with no side cover but of course the filter can then migrate out of place.

Yes it does idle fine now seems like when I first start the bike cylinder 3 just takes slightly longer to heat up and this is the cylinder with the bag plug wire that's why I did all four plugs and wires and spark plug caps def going to be adjust ing the valves asap and wantto do a compression test where would I find a spring for air filter

Not your usual spring, it's a piece of metal maybe 6 inches long bent in a roughly 'W' shape.

Don't be silly and spend that much for it, one could make that part out of almost any piece of strip metal from a hardware store.........
'good used part'............................corroded all to crap of course, some people think you are not smart enough to look at the pics LOL.
