Hello all, and thanks for welcoming me to the group. I'm working on a 1981 CB900C that belongs to a friend. It ran like crap and I offered to take a look, thinking some carb cleaning would get it back in shape. I quickly found #4 cylinder dead with almost no compression. It had a burned exhaust valve. So much for simple.
The bike has been apart for some time now as I waited to find a machinist who could work on the cylinder head. As I'm reassembling the engine to the frame, there are a few hoses that I can't figure out where they belong. I checked the service manual carefully but couldn't find the info there either. If anyone can help, it will be much appreciated.
This bike has a vacuum fuel shut off valve attached to the top of the carburetor bank. There are no details of it in the service manual I have . The vacuum line to the manifold, and the two fuel lines are clear, but there is another small vacuum-sized line that connects to the top of the diaphraghm housing. There is a hose connected to it, but I can't see where it is supposed to go.
Also, there is a large vent line coming out of the top of the transfer case (not the dual hoses coming from the crankcase). Again, it has a rather thick hose connected, but I can't see where it is supposed to go.
And the last, on the carburetor bank, there is a "T" fitting with a nipple between carbs 2 and three, toward the intake side of the carbs. It looks like it should have something plugged in there, but there was no hose connected.
Again, many thanks for any help you can provide. I REALLY want to get this bike back together and get my buddy back on the road.
