1981 cb750k electrical questions

Hi all just acquired a 81 750k motor. Got what I think is all the electrical to make it run minus the cdi. My main question is if I need two cdi's or if I can just get away with one? I've seen some bikes have two. I'm not familiar with the CB's so any help would be welcomed.

Okay thankyou, does the motor also have points? Because I've seen on ebay electronic ignition kits?

Okay thanks, one more thing, the cdi's aren't cheap new. For two It's looking close to a little under 300. Other then going used is there any cheaper options? I though there would be more aftermarket support as 750s are common?

There is lots of aftermarket stuff for these bikes. Check places like Vintage CB750, 4into1, Ebay etc.

I would not recommend going cheap on CDI units. Rick's Motorsport Electrics is my preferred source for that kinda stuff because they don't sell junk.

If a CDI fails while you're out on a ride it is unfixable unless you have a spare, and hard to diagnose unless you have an inline spark tester and a multimeter in your saddlebag toolkit.

Buying a used OEM one is what I'd do if I was on a budget, and then I'd ohm test it before installing.
