Recently bought a 1980 750F, sitting for 15 years !
The starter is slipping, did new springs, full cleanup and its worse than before, will not engage at all.
I just Noticed the big gear wobbles, is there a cure for this? replacement gear? shim?

I had a similar issue and decided to change the entire starter clutch assembly to a Yamaha R6. Do an online search and watch youtube to see how this is done, but it makes a world of difference. The original Honda starter clutch is fairly old technology compared to the much newer R6. It's a relatively easy swap and the results are night and day. No more starter clutch rattle, no more disengagement. Here's the part... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/373698757404

I went for the stock rebuild, springs, end caps and rollers. It works BETTER but still it sometimes doesn't work, so i'm already looking for the R6 conversion.
Thanks for the input!
