Hello all,

I picked up this 1978 cb750k as a runner but it turned out to need a lot of work.

The compression was low and after taking the engine out and tearing down the top end I found the cylinders were out of spec. The plan is a 836cc as well as a cam depending on which 836cc kit I use will determine the cam choice.

The primary chains are in spec at 67mm. There was some debris in the oil pan and lodged in the oil screen. Maybe two small flakes of metal in the whole lot. Looked mostly like gasket material. Going to rebuild the oil pump anyway. The rotors in the pump check out good and are in spec so I just need a kit.

The head is being sent off for a rebuild and some porting work.

I am sticking with the Jardine pipes that came on it which are 2-1 on either side of the bike.

The bike is getting a kz1000 ltd front end and wheels. This gives me dual disc up front as well as disc rear. I am using a 78 cb750f swingarm to allow for the swap. The kz1000 ltd rear wheel also uses a 20mm rear axle so I just needed to use the stock cb750k axle and the kz1000 ltd spacer from the wheel to the caliper mount which is also kz1000 ltd. From here I will make custom wheel spacers once I can confirm alignment between rear sprocket and front sprocket. It looks pretty lined up all the same. The final drive will most likely be 46 rear and 15 front as that is what I can get for the kawasaki wheel. It should equal 48 rear and 17 on a typical cb750 setup. The front end will be going on with the help of conversation bearings from all balls. I had to take 1.5mm off the base of the lower triple tree where the bearing sits due to the difference in neck stem length between the kz1000 ltd and the stock cb750. Other than that it is a bolt up setup and will give me a trail of 5.5".

Going to be running a set of z bars. The look I am going for 70's muscle bike.

This is about as far as I am. This is a long term project and money is tight. I was very fortunate to get a large amount of kz1000 ltd parts in trade for a metal bender I wasn't using. That set me up pretty good. Everything else will be as money allows.

I consider myself fortunate because I have always wanted a cb750 sohc and coming from my last bike a Harley, this is much cheaper to modify. Still broke though, LOL.

Cheers

Dime , are you going to use the KZ`s brakes aswell ? The CB`s front leaves a lot to be desired as they are only a single piston , but at least with the KZ`s you`ll have 3 discs

Yes sir. I have all three disc's as well as calipers. I also have the front and rear master cylinders. I really scored parts wise in the deal

Well it was Christmas and I stumbled across this top triple trees off an 1981 CRS kz1000 on ebay. The CRS shares a lot of similarities with the kz1000 ltd but was stripped down. Both had 38mm forks and comparing the top triple tree I have off the kz1000 ltd and the pictures it should be the same offset and fork spacing. For $60 Cad landed to the door it is worth a shot to get a cleaner looking top clamp instead of having to go the custom route. Will update when I have it in hand.

The new triple tree top clamp showed up and it fits perfectly. A lot cleaner than the original top clamp. Once I know for sure how I am mounting the speedo and tach I will remove the excess mounts to clean it up some more.

The new top clamp is off a 1981 kz1000 CRS. The rest of the front end is a 1981 kz1000 ltd
