Hey PWBII, if you could expand on your thoughts. When I'm looking around on eBay and such for a tank, I see some of these 750F tanks are being listed as for '75-'78 bikes. Do you know why that is? Are they incorrect in thinking the tanks are universal? Is it possible to say fit a '78 tank on a '76 frame if you bought the '78 mounts? Besides being period correct, (which I'm not concerned with) does it matter which side the petcock is mounted on? I appreciate your knowledge......

Honda made a big change in looks to the Supersport in the '77' & '78' F model. Total new look to the bike, & of course '79' is the DOHC model intro. '75' & '76' model parts are interchangeable & '77' & '78' are interchangeable. Motor parts are the same for the 4 years, carbs & chassis are not. I have to check my parts, I may have some tanks. see pics of the 2 models below.

you can use a tank with the petcock on either side just the fuel line routing is different. The frame mounts for the fuel tanks for the different series are different but depending on how creative you want to get with your welder you can make a newer one fit the older frame. The geometry seems to be the same. so, it should look OK when you're done. As an aside, remember the "F" used a single tap petcock instead of a dual drop that some of the "K"s used. So, there is a "T" fitting in the line originally on these bikes to split the fuel feed (1 & 2 carbs, to 3 & 4 carbs). Also, CMSNL dot com has all the parts lookups for these old bikes, use them to look at all the diagrams for ideas on rebuilds & part numbers. I haven't bought anything from them so, I can't advise there. I actually have the last microfiche for my 1976 "K" but, try find a reader today for that.

Not sure how costly it is, but I found several sites that will convert the microfiche to digital pdf files. I've got the factory service manual for my bike on pdf and use it more than the actual paper copy of the same book that came with the bike when I bought it.

If I'm reading this correctly, you require a tank for a '76 CB750F ?
Well I've now got seven of them here, but unfortunately I don't want to sell (took me long enough to hunt them down), and I'm in England.
I can tell you that all the SOHC 750F tanks are the same basic shape, from the 1975 CB750F, to the '78 CB750F3.
Anyone who thinks that they change shape radically must be thinking of the 750K bikes, or the later DOHC 16 valve bikes.
There are minor differences between the F/F1 tanks and the F2/F3 tanks.
The early tanks had a 20mm fuel tap thread, later ones are 16mm.
Pattern fuel taps available for both, but the 20mm ones are harder to find and expensive too.
The later tanks also have two extra brackets fitted underneath for little stabiliser rubbers.
Not visible in service and you could always remove the brackets.
Right.
I'll hang up my Anorak now.
I hope this is of some help.
